Active, 1812

In action: moving; causing action or change.

The second cutter named Active was possibly a chartered vessel that saw service during the War of 1812.  She was commanded by Revenue Captain Caleb Brewster and was part of a naval flotilla that was blockaded at New London, Connecticut, by the Royal Navy.

Active remained in service until 1817.  Note that there was another cutter named Active that entered service at Baltimore in 1816 so that for at least one year there were two cutters in service with the same name.
