Narragansett, 1867

later Mignonette

A former name retained.

Tender History:

The Narragansett was a private schooner that had been built in 1862.  She was acquired by the Lighthouse Service in 1867 for use as an engineering tender in the 6th Lighthouse District.  She was modified for that service at City Island, New York.  Her name was changed to the Mignonette on 7 October 1871.

She sank at anchor near Stratford Shoal in 1877 during a gale but was raised, repaired, and returned to service.  She was then transferred to Key West, Florida.  She was lost with the loss of her entire crew of 16 during a hurricane off Brazos Santiago, Texas, on 21 September 1887.
