USCG HQ - Original Caption: "DIRECTOR OF SPARS RECEIVES LEGION OF MERIT [--] Captain Dorothy C. Stratton, USCGR(W), Director of the Coast Guard SPARS, is shown receiving the Legion of Merit Medal from Admiral Joseph F. Farley, Commandant of the Coast Guard. The ceremonies took place at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington. Captain Stratton will return to civilian life on January 16, 1946, after over three years of service in the Coast Guard." Photo released for publication on 15 January 1946.
